HUDSON, JOHN, son of Henry Hudson and his father’s companion on his voyage to the high Arctic (1607) and to Nova Zemlya, (1608); 1592?–1611?
John Hudson did not obtain a berth on the Dutch-sponsored expedition to the Hudson River but joined the Discovery on his father’s last voyage (1610–11). Although he was only 19 years old, he was put overboard by the mutineers, who doubtless dreaded the effect of his testimony if he were allowed to live. Asher considers the relationship between the two Hudsons unproved, despite the testimony of Purchas on that point.
